What does it mean to be an admin within our community?

Today, let’s have a quick chat about the MVPs of our community — the Local Admins. Think of them as the captains of our pickleball ship, keeping our events on course. While the vast majority of player-generated events will run smoothly without the need for intervention, having approachable local admins when issues arise is crucial. Their role carries significant influence and responsibility.

The Local Admin’s Toolkit:

  • Event Oversight: Admins have the authority to modify or cancel any event — or any matches within an event — at their location to ensure the best experience for players.
  • Player Coordination: When called upon, they can assist with signup issues by adding, removing, or swapping players to ensure that events run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Elect Other Admins: Admins have the privilege of promoting other local players to assist them in managing the community.

Our goal in empowering admins with these capabilities is to provide the basic tools needed for local leadership and self-governance. We believe that these tools are fundamental, whether for a private club or a public park, in helping local leaders organize and facilitate events that are fun, fair, and accessible.

How many admins should each location have?

While each location will decide the right balance of admins to active players for itself, we’ve found a ratio of one admin to every twenty active players works well to ensure that administrative responsibilities are manageable and that the community is well-supported.

How does a player become an admin?

  1. Venue Creation: If you’re the creator of a new location within the app, you’re automatically assigned as the initial admin. As your local community grows, you can recruit additional support.
  2. Get Promoted: If you’re looking to take on a leadership role, reach out to current admins. You can easily find them through the players list “admin filter,” then send a simple in-app message requesting a promotion.

In essence, Local Admins are the anchors of our community. They keep the game we love organized and ensure that every member has a go-to resource for navigating the local pickleball scene. By providing an in-app directory of these dedicated individuals, we’re fostering a network of support — ready to serve answers, assistance with event snags, and technical guides for newbies and seasoned players alike. Whether you’re strategizing your next match or simply looking for friendly advice, your Local Admins are just a tap away!

Looking ahead, our roadmap includes exciting enhancements and rewards for those who step into this pivotal role. We are committed to recognizing and supporting our Local Admins as they continue to nurture the growth and spirit of our community. As we work towards these enhancements, our Local Admins will not only have the tools to keep games fair and fun but will also receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication and leadership. So, for those who have been guiding us through games and gatherings for almost two years now, consider this a prelude to the accolades to come.
