Welcome to the detailed guide for game tracking in Pickled.App! If you’re after a brief overview, you may want to check out our Quick Start Guide.

Pickled.App currently provides manual match creation, which is perfect for standard, day-to-day round-robin type events where individual player results are noted. But, we’re not stopping there! We are actively building a ton of new features — all at no cost to you!

Creating Matches

First off, to create matches (games), an event needs to be created and players signed up for it. Then, on the event day and once everyone is on the court, you’re ready to start. Navigate to the event details and click on the “matches” button to access the match options.

Here is a list of current match options:

  • Game Format: For now, only the “manual” game format is supported, but we’re working on adding more game format options — soon!
  • # Matches: To create a single match and assign teams simultaneously, leave this at 1. Alternatively, select the number of empty matches you want to create and assign teams and edit match details later.
  • Scoring Type: Choosing “Individual” will evaluate the winner for individual players even in team scenarios. Selecting “Team” will track performance for each unique team in the event.
  • Scoring Method: “Points” counts scores based on the accumulated point total for each game. “Wins” counts scores based on the number of victories (if tied, points will be used to determine the winner)
  • Team Assignments: Assign players to teams using the interactive drop-down menus. Remember, player guests cannot be assigned to a match — everyone should sign up individually!

Understanding the Match Summary Section

Here’s a detailed breakdown of what you see in each match summary:

  • Match Number / Type: Each match summary header shows the match number and a two-letter code indicating the match scoring type (Individual = “I” or Team = “T”), and the scoring method (Points = “P” and Wins = “W”).
  • Dispute: If there are any discrepancies, players can initiate a dispute (more on that below).
  • Edit: Tap the “Edit” icon to reassign players, edit scores or change match details.
  • Delete: Tap the “Delete” icon to delete the match.
  • Player Boxes: This section lists each player’s name. Italic text indicates the match is not yet completed. Once the match concludes, winners are highlighted with a trophy icon.
  • Score, Plus and Minus Icons: These allow for easy score adjustment as the match progresses.

Pickled.App displays are updated in real-time, so your friends/family can follow your performance live!

Score Logging, Validation, and Disputes

Keeping accurate player scores is crucial. While other apps might be restrictive in who can log scores or require players from both teams to verify every match’s scores before counting, we believe that extra steps should be an exception rather than the norm! Our approach to validating and logging player scores emphasizes “trust but verify”.

Score Logging: On the event day any player signed up can log the score for an associated match. This feature empowers players not actively competing or those who happen to have their phone handy to log scores. Post-event, only the event organizer can change scores and only for 1 day.

Score Validation and Dispute: Mistakes happen, and incorrect scores may be logged. If a player who competed in a match spots a discrepancy in the scores within 1 day of the event’s conclusion, they can flag the score for dispute. This alerts the event organizer to a player dispute, after which the player and organizer can discuss the details and find a solution.

The event organizer has the final say on whether a score changes, while the player ultimately decides whether to remove the “disputed” status. If the dispute is resolved satisfactorily, the player can retract the dispute by clicking the triangle icon again, which will remove the “disputed” status. If the dispute is not resolved to mutual satisfaction, the event will still be recorded and counted but will be permanently marked as disputed. Please note that players cannot dispute scores in matches they did not participate in, and event organizers cannot dispute their own events.

Monitoring Game Results

You can check the “Results” tab at any time to view current player or team standings. These stats update dynamically in real time every time a score is logged, meaning your friends and family can track your performance if you share the event. The small number next to each players name represents the number of matches completed. This especially comes in handy for games based on point total where players should all compete in the same number of matches.

Closing the Event and Recording Matches

When you’re done, the organizer should click the “Close Event / Record Matches” button. This does a couple of things:

  1. Marks the event as closed and prevents attendees from editing scores (though the organizer still can).
  2. Updates player profiles with win/loss, points, and any earned trophies.

That wraps up our detailed guide for game tracking in Pickled.App. We’re committed to making your experience on the platform as enjoyable as possible. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to leave a comment here or join the conversation on Facebook .
