Creating and tracking leagues on Pickled.App couldn’t be simpler! This guide will walk you through the four essential steps:

  1. Create a league and enable player signups
  2. Schedule league events
  3. Record and verify games at league events
  4. Conclude the league

At a high level, you first create a league, defining certain criteria such as skill levels, match type, and maximum number of players that can participate in total. You then proceed to create league events where you’ll log scores from individual games. The results of these matches contribute to overall league standings.

Typically, a league is set up to allow signups for the largest group of players that you wish to accommodate. Then, depending on court availability, you’ll create individual events for a smaller subset of this group. For example, a league might allow up to 20 players to sign up in total, but then have daily league events for up to 6 players at a time. This structure allows players to pick and choose the days and events that best fit their schedules.

Once you’ve grasped this concept, managing a league on Pickled.App becomes quite straightforward. Now, let’s delve into each of these steps in detail.

Creating a League

Start by tapping the “Leagues” icon on the top menu, followed by the ‘Create League’ button. This will bring up the league creation form:

  • Name your league uniquely
  • Choose the appropriate league options:
☑️ Invite Only (Private): Choose this if you want your league to be visible only to invited players. You can create an invite list from your custom player club (See: Organizing Players Guide).
☑️ Start Date/End Date: Set the beginning and end dates for your league events.
☑️ Signups End: Specify when you want to stop accepting signups.
☑️ Match Type: Currently, we support doubles matches.
☑️ Scoring type: Choose whether points should be awarded to individuals or set teams. If your league doesn’t have set teams that will play together for the league season, select ‘individual’.
☑️ Scoring method: Determine the league winner by win percent, points or win count.
☑️ Min Games: This sets the minimum number of games required for each player to complete in order to qualify. In a league with a scoring method of win percent, this prevents someone from playing once and finishing the league with a 100% win rate. Think of “Min Games” as a minimum participation threshold. Only players meeting the minimum game requirement are considered for victory.
☑️ Gender: Specify any gender requirements.
☑️ Player Limits: Set the minimum and maximum number of players for this league.
☑️ Skill Requirements: Define the minimum and maximum player skill level for your event. Players outside these skill levels won’t be able to sign up.

Once you’ve saved your league, it will be visible to eligible players. Players can join by selecting your league under the Leagues icon or by signing up for a league event (more on that below). Either way, they’ll be automatically added to your league.

Creating League Events

Creating a league event is much like creating any other event in Pickled. The difference is that you’ll select ‘League’ as the event type. This will bring up the league selection dialog. Choose the league you want this event to belong to, and the event will inherit its attributes.

League events will automatically appear on the events dashboard and within the league events summary tab. Players can sign up for any league event in the usual way, or from the league event summary using the quick add icon.

Logging Matches at League Events

For a league event, players need to log their match results as they directly influence scores. Remember, guests are restricted at league events because we need to track each player’s performance. Click here for a refresher on logging match results.

Verifying Match Results

As the league organizer, you should review all match results after each event and before the league season ends. Any disputes can be addressed using our dispute system (see ‘Score validation and dispute’ in the Game Logging Detailed Guide).

League Standings and Statistics

Players can track their progress via the ‘Results’ tab in the league page. The real-time stats include rankings, matches played, and more.

Communicating with League Members

Use the Pickled.App platform messaging to share updates, send reminders, and foster community within your league.

Concluding the League

To conclude a league at the end of the league season, navigate to its page and hit the ‘End League’ button. This will lock the results, calculate final standings, and distribute awards based on your chosen scoring method.

With Pickled.App, you’re in for a seamless league management experience. Enjoy your games and keep on pickle-ballin! 🥳🏓💫
